Spinning Sage Icon

I'm running:

Sage 5.0.4
SageMC 16x9 Version 6.13a

If I'm playing back a video file and press the home button this
will pause the video in the lower left corner and take me to
the home screen.
At this point when I try to use the menu I get the sage spinning icon
between every up or down menu movement.
It take a couple of second to move to the next selection.
If I stop the paused video the menu works very quickly.

This problem does not happen if I switch back to the default
STV.

I did try turning off the animations in Sage MC but that did not
Help

I should add that this is a fresh xp sp2 install.
No antivirus
All updates
All the lastest drivers
