Need Help getting troublesome Digital channel

Hi,

I am having trouble getting in WIVB digital in the Buffalo NY Area. Looking around on the web I found several references to problems in Win MCE caused by Major-Minor-Physical Channel discrepencies in regards to this station. I'm hoping that there is some way to correct this in SageTV, but I'm pretty much a newb when it comes to anything more than basic setup. I'm using the lastest SageMC 16x9 if that makes a diffrence. Can anyone walk me thru the steps required to fix this?

Thanks.

Ravensong,

What EPG are you using?
What model card?

How is WIVB listed in the guide your using? WIVB, WIVBDT?

Using Vbox Catseye 150 Tuner and US XMLTV as epg.

WIVBDT is how it is listed and shows up in EPG as 39.
From what I gathered on the web, They have thier Major channel set to 4 and thier physical channel at 39.

This page http://www.thenears.com/archives/155
Describes what I believe to be the problem, but I have no clue as to where/how I might fix this situation.

Are you trying to pick up and Canadian channels, or just the buffalo locals?

If just buffalo, before we get very technical, try using the guide, Buffalo - Digital Broadcast. Then, see if you can tune all the channels you want.

let me know how that goes.

I'm local too, so worst case scenerio, we can talk on the phone to help you get this going.

Off to watch the Sabres game. Go Sabres!!!!!

I have been using Buffalo digital up to this point, with no reception on WIVBDT. Briefly tried Buffalo Local listing and did no better. Didn't see any Canadian stuff listed in the digital. Wouldn't mind getting them as well, but Channel 4 is the one I'm concerned with.

I have no prob with getting technical, I just don't know anything about SageTV internal workings or XML type stuff. I can certainly edit a text file if thats what it amounts to and I knew where to look.

Ok, to start, try adding this channel manually to the listing

WIVBDT 32-23-1 (I find this stronger that 39-4-1 in many cases)

Also, please try viewing in inside of the channel setup as well as selecting it via the guide. When viewing it inside of the channel setup, regardless if you have video or the no signal screen, what is the signal strength showing?

If that channel fails, try removing it and adding

WIVBDT 32-23-3

Again, please note the signal strength meter results and take note.

let's see how this goes and take it from there.

We've got company coming tonight for the hockey game, so I may or may not be online later tonight

Scott

There is no option in my channel setup to add channels. I'm not sure why. I see in the SageTV manual where it should be. It's just not there. I also don't see where I should see signal strength. I actually wondered why that was not included. Are these 2 functions not part of the SageMC 16x9 STV?

um, not sure if they are in that STV. Double check if the "add channel" is in

Setup-Setup Video Sources-"Select Current Card here"-Channel Setup

if it is not there, try reverting to the default STV for setup purposes

I reverted to standard STV and ran "Scan for Available" and it found all the Buffalo stuff as well as listing them by their Virtual numbers. WIVBDT is good to go. It never occured to me that there might be features missing from an STV, especially such a popular one. No big deal I guess if your aware of it, but havng been set up for less than a month I am still learning the ropes.

Thanks so much for your help!
