static IP - telnet login to MVP
Apologies if this is old news...
I spent a bit of time reading posts on forums such as http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/f...forum_id=46647 and http://www.shspvr.com/smf/ And I see folks saying that you can telnet to a Hauppauge MVP and issue linux commands. And one fellow shows how to solder in the missing serial port chip inside the MVP - and get at the MVP's PowerPC bootloader. I also see that the MVP downloads a RAM image from the Windows server (and the Linux gang has built their own server for MVPs). So I'd think that you could alter the RAM files (they're a standard Linux-style archive), or the so-called dongle.bin file for the MVP, and give it a static IP - so it might skip DHCP and go directly to bootp. It would still boot via the LAN. Maybe not. This, for the folks talking about having trouble with DHCP on the MVP. Since Win XP Pro and the like don't have a DHCPd, I wonder if Sage's server is doing that function? Or if DHCPd is within some Hauppauge software that one loads with the MVP installation? ================== the source code for the Kernel and Busybox mods is here: ftp://167.206.143.11/latest/MediaMVP...t1.1.21315.tgz (28MB, slow FTP) It's also mirrored here: (an FTP server that supports restarts) ftp://ftp.shspvr.com/download/mediam...st1.1.21315tgz and there's discussion about "hacking" the MediaMVP, here: http://www.shspvr.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3433 Regards, Bill V.
