Convert Videos crashes transcoder, Sage Beta 6.0.12

When I set a folder of HD shows to convert to DVD-compatible MPEG files, I wake up the next day to find that only one of them (if that) completed, and the SageTranscoder process has crashed.

I assume that the file conversion process is still a work in progress, of course.

Anything I should try/check out?

On the same note, what have others found to be the best (most reliable) way to archive HD video, either to DVD-compatible MPEGs or to MPEG4 files? I've tried using Nero Vision to transcode them to DVD, but while the picture is sharp and the audio is properly preserved as AC3, there's an ever-so-slight "shimmer/chop" during movement. I've assume this is probably a deinterlacing artifact, but I couldn't find any better settings to try...
