Serial connection to DirecTV stops working?

I need help. The problem seems minor but it's causing issues big time.

Hi, my setup is the following:

SageTV 4.1.3
DirecTV RCA Model DRD502RB
Windows XP sp2
Hauppauge WINTV PVR 150 for MCE

I installed SageTV in April of this year with few problems. I controlled the DirecTV with a serial cable to the low speed data port. Everything worked great until about 3-4 weeks ago when the serial connection appeared to stop working.

Nothing I have done seems to fix it. I've switched cables, installed the remote that came with the Hauppauge PVR 150, changed the serialconnect.dll version a couple of times, rebooted the PC and the DRD502RB several times and searched on the forums for some clue about what to do.

Frankly, I'm out of ideas. The postings I've found don't seem to indicate if the remote that came with the Hauppage card will work (I can't figure out if it's the 39 button remote or the 45 button remote and do I really need to reinstall SageTV to get it to work) and I don't know even if the DRD502RB will even accept the signal from the Hauppage setup. Hauppage does not call it an IR Blaster, maybe I should call it an MCE Blaster...

Anyway, any suggestions would be helpful.

Some additional information:

I reviewed the sticky at the top of "Hardware Support" regarding How-To use SageTV w/ XP MCE and IR Remote. I went to Setup - Detailed Setup - Commands - Remote Config but I didn't have a choice for MCE Remote.

Since I 4.1.3 and the sticky says I need 4.1.13 at least, shouldn't I have this option?

OK, now it's working again. Not sure what I did to make it work... wait, I did upgrade to 6.0, but I don't know if that fixed it or not.

Anyway, five months later, the serial connection changer works.
