Purevideo decoder issue

Good afternoon,

Since version 5.0.x, I've had an intermittent problem with using the Nvidia PureVideo decoder (latest version, released in June). When hitting fast-forward or rewind, when video resumes, it kind of strobes. If I hit FF or RW again, when it redisplays the video, it is normal. It's obviously very easy to work-around this, but it is truly annoying

Has anyone else experienced this? I have not updated my Nvidia 6200 video drivers as of yet... that may be my next step. The drivers installed would be from around the July timeframe....

Thanks!

Hi CanadianEh. When you say strobes, do you mean it looks like the whole video jumps up a frame, then down a frame, and text flickers madly?
If so, the purevideo driver is screwing up deinterlacing the video. One thing that may verify it for you is to install FRAPS, and overlay the framespeed while watching a show in sage. If fps repeatedly jumps between 24 and 30 when you're seeing the strobing, then settles down when you don't see strobing, you have been bitten by the purevideo bug. Note that it is normal for the fps to alternate between 24 and 30 depending on what is being displayed (some of what we see on tv is film, and some is video, even within the same show it can change multiple times). It just isn't normal for it to flip back and forth every few seconds for no reason.

You're not the only one. It seems to be completely random who it affects. For many people, purevideo works flawlessly, for others it is nothing but problems. I haven't had much luck with it so far, but i'm still working on it.

Actually it should be 24 and 60. If you're using software (Nvidia Post Processing) instead of hardware (Nvidia Decoder) then it will be 30.

Slightly unrelated issue, but does anyone know how to REGISTER their decoder? After installing it put a link on my desktop to purchase/register but it only takes you to the nvidia store.

I have a license key but can't seem to figure out where to put it!

This happens only if I use "smart" deinterlacing. Try "auto".
