Removing commercials from recorded shows.

I've recorded some episodes for Heroes with my HD card. I'd like to remove the commercials from the archived episodes. What could I use to remove them? I figure it would have to be an external program. Any suggestions?

I second VideoRedo. Great app. It has a commercial detection mode but I have never used it. Showanalyzer can ouput comskip files that video redo can use to speed up the editing process greatly.

Hey! This is pretty cool! I'll have to buy this program. I just gave the trial version a test and it's really good. The quality look to be the same. I used the default settings since I don't know anything about the program yet. Hmm? Is there any freeware that works this good?

So an episode of Heroes is only about 11 minutes long without commercials? That doesn't seem right, but I am missing the last few minutes because the show ran past the hour.

In my experience 30 min TV shows have around 10 min of commercials, leaving a 20 min show. A 60 min show has around 40 min of programming after removing the commercials.

I've written a plug-in for SageMC for DVD burning and compressing videos, but also included with the plug-in in a batch file that you can use for drag n' drop cutting of mpeg's and avi's that have comskip/SA .edl files. I recommend giving it a shot as it's free and works quite well (provided your comskip data is accurate)
