ATI Audio Issues

I have an old ATI card that I will be replacing when I can afford to do so, but in the mean time I had the wild idea of trying to get it to work. The original software and drivers never worked right but found that sage did in fact work. There was a minor issue that after hours and hours of searching never found a solution. I did try something that is beyond me why it worked but it did.

Problem:
when playing back live tv the audio would not pause along with the video. Also the audio (because of the buffer) was always out of sync.

Solution:
Move the audio out of the tv wonder pro from aux in, to mic in. Originally I had this on the mobo aux input, then tried the stereo jack, that failed, finally moved the stereo jack from my aux in, to my mic and this worked.

Why would this be the case? and is there any way I can get it to work with the aux input until I can get a new card with hardware encoding? I would like to have my mic plugged back in if possible.

This is happening because the software encoder is recording the autio from one input, but you had it connected to another input, where it simply came into the PC & ended up being heard live w/o being encoded with the video. The only thing I know of to try is to select a different audio inout during the source setup -- for software encoders, the audio input is chosen after selecting the video input. But, you may still end up hearing the audio as it comes into the PC.
