Better software decoder?
I was wondering if anyone out there is using a better software decoder then the one built into sage. I don't have the option of updating my video card to a nvidia so the pure decoders are out of the question.
Is there anything out there that emphasizes EFFICIENCY over video quality? Its not the best client PC but i would like to be able to use the menus when watching a show. Thanks

You could try ffdshow. Almost all post-processing is under your control, so you can tweak it for efficiency to your liking.

You don't have to have an Nividia card to use the Purevideo codec. Its generally considered best of the bunch whether you have an nvidia card or not.

I tried the pure decoder with my server's GeforceFX5200 (which only has "partial" support of hardware decoding) and the system was extremely sluggish. The one I am trying to find a better software decoder for is way crappier then my server.
Worth a shot though. Maybe it just hated my 5200 Corykim: Thanks, Ill give that one a shot. Seems like you can really tone it down if need be. EDIT: To my utter surprise (and a complete reformatting / reinstallation) the pure decoders now actually WORK on my system, and even though my 5200 is only "partially supported", cpu dropped to 13-15% during decoding Thanks.
