Problem with my TV-OUT
First, i don't think this is related to sage, more of a NVIDIA issue, though is hurting my sage fun
Yesterday I reinstalled my system and upgraded to sage6 beta. I finally got around to installing the Nvidia purevideo decoders and all is working great. There is a big problem with my TV-out now though. when I go watch a show, the TV acts like it is losing signal for a second, then re-establishes it (sort of like when you change resolutions and get a blackout for a second). This only happens on the TV. It never happened 2 days ago before I reformatted. Is this something with the Purevideo decoders? Sound normal to anyone? the screen sort of flickers every time I start watching a video. Also several times when windows is loading. Sounds dumb, but it is EXTREMELY annoying. Hope that isn't too vague. Otherwise great work on sage 6, my AAC collection thanks you.

I believe I experience the same thing. It is a split second flicker.
I think it is Nvidia driver or Purevideo decoder related.

Thanks, good to know its not something related to my fresh install. I never had it on my previous install, though the new reformat has these changes
Latest NVIDIA driver PureVideo decoder Sage 6.0 Had a feeling it was related to the first 2.

Until a month ago I was running an ATI card and I didnt have this issue even with the Purevideo Decoder. I installed a new nVidia card with the latest drivers and the problem appeared only on TV Out.

I think It has to do with the NVIDIA drivers personally. I get the same effects if i click the nvidia control panel.
EDIT: I at at work so have not tested this yet. I found it on another forum and "should" take care of the flashing issue Does your NVIDIA gForce based graphics card flicker the screen annoyingly at boot up and when you right click certain types of files. This article explains how to solve it. I have been experiencing these annoying sync-problems with the NVIDIA Gforce based graphics card installed on my computer. After a little investigation the cause for this lies in nvcpl.dll file, this file is an nvidia dll which scans for any connected TVs. The first time the dll is loaded, is at windows-bootup: (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->SOFTWARE->Microsoft->Windows->CurrentVersion->Run). This causes the first flicker and unfortunately the auto-startup-entry can't be deleted. The more annoying flicker when the mouse right-click is used on a video file (mpeg, avi etc) is caused by a shell-extension, which the nvidia-driver installs for all types of video files. This shell-extension calls the nvcpl.dll every time you use the right click on these files and scans for connected TVs. If a TV is present, the shell extension shows up in the context-menu as "Play on My TV". I have not tested this but is appears that using this option causes the video to be directly shown on your connected TV. This functionality could have been implemented a lot better. The number of people who have TV's connected direct into their PC's are few and far between. The registry key responsible for the shell extensioncan be found using 'regedit' and searching for for "PlayOnMyTV". The first entries are usually under "shellex" (shell extension). These entries contain an identifier {FFB699E0-306A-11d3-8BD1-00104B6F7516}. It is not clear if this identifier is static or created dynamically, so in your registry, it might be another number. Once you have identifier number search for it in the registry; delete every occurrence when it's connected to video-file formats (.avi, .mpg, .mpeg and so on) and afterwards the "PlayOnMyTV"-shellextensions. That should now solve the problem

This does not seem to have done it for me. I still have the issue.
It really sucks as every time i change channel the screen flickers for a second or so. It make it extremely annoying. |

The tip above about the nvcpl.dll file sounds interesting. Obviously we have to restart the PC for the changes in the registry to take effect.
I am not at home now but there may be a setting in the Nvidia control panel along the lines of "force TV/display detection". Maybe this could be played with to see whether it affects it. Don't know if it helps but in my case I only get the flicker when I start playing a video or start watching a channel. Using the channel up and down functions to change channels does not cause the flicker.

Mine just sort of stopped..
I tried the .dll trick and that worked for the right clicking of files, but nothing else. I then enabled the force tv detection in the control panel I think that fixed the SageTV Related flashing.. Not sure what I did, but it seems to work now. In sage anyway. I'm pretty sure the force tv detection is the key for sage.

Where is this "force tv" option? I cannot find it anywhere...

I had to tinker around with the new counter-intuitive control panel design and switch back to the old style in order to find the option
There should be an option somewhere to revert control panel styles. Like I said earlier though. I don't know if it was the force tv detection that worked (dont forget reboot). IT also seems to have only fixed sage, but I definately dont flash anymore.

Ok. I know where to switch to the old style. I will play with that. I have alread y deleted the "PlayOnMyTv" stuff from registry and that fixed the right click. All I really want is sage to be fixed.
I will try this tonight and let you know. Thank you!
