Idea for reinstallation

I am a bit of a neat freak which sometimes can cause issues . Lately I have been trying new customizations (some broken) for sage 6 and my installation has become dirty and cluttered. I was thinking of reinstalling sage, but I despise windows' uninstallation processes. (sorry i'm a mac guy). I fear dirty registry with overwrites.

Anyway, I had an idea of installing a perfectly clean installation of sage on my main PC and then replacing the sageTV folder on my HTPC with the temporary one I created.

I don't see why this wouldn't work. It shouldn't affect the registry. as long as I preserve my main files such as wiz.bin and sage.preferences all should work correct?

Any other files I should copy over?

If you're afraid of accumulated registry junk, I don't quite see how refreshing everything but the registry is going to ease your fears.

Still, if that's what you want to do, I don't think you need a second machine to do it. Just rename your existing SageTV installation folder, reinstall Sage into a new folder, copy over the files you want to keep (I expect the FAQ has something to say about which files those might be), and then delete the (renamed) original folder. That way you don't risk having to run the dreaded uninstaller on your main machine.

I do a clean install all the time. I just shutdown SageTV, increment the Program Files\SageTV folder name to something like SageTV2, and then install the new version. Then just copy the Sage.properties and wiz.bin files into the new SageTV folder and SageTV is ready to go. That way if I have problems with the new version, switching back is just a folder rename away.

I don't think SageTV make much use of the Registry, most of the settings are saved in the Sage.properties file which will accumulate unneeded settings with different customizations. I don't know of an easy way to clean that, but I don't know of any problems that are caused by it either.

Thanks

I was just trying to see if it were possible to replace the sageTV folder without running the installation. I try to run as little as possible ON the htpc to keep it clean.

Probably wouldn't hurt much to un and reinstall
