Windows/Linux License?

I'm am thinking about getting SageTV for a HTPC I am getting.

I am however not sure which OS I will have on the PC at this stage. I would like to go with Linux, but if I have problems getting the various bits of hardware to work, then I might go back to Windows.

If I get a Linux license to start with can I convert this to a Windows one, if I have problems?

A do not want to end up buying two, since I will only be using one in the end.

No, they are not interchangable.

This makes it very tricky to get the Linux one.

There is not trial version available is there?

So, it it possible that I could buy it, find I have hardware compatibility issues. Meaning I would need to bin it and the $80, and buy a windows one, for another $80!

This does not seem very helpful for anyone trying to show support for your Linux version?

very disappointing

Linux version was developed for OEMs and not the typical user. If you follow the documentation and release notes and only use the supported hardware and distros you won't have an issue. The farther you stray from the recommended and supported hardware the more likely you will have issues. I would study the support thread and see what is working with people using it out there. And keep in mind there is really no support for it other than the forum.

The Linux version is actually for OEMs and Sage doesn't provide tech support for it. They made it available since some showed interest in it, but I don't think Sage cares about having a lot of individual users purchasing the product.

Edit: Too slow.
