Choppy Audio with WMVP

I just set up a wireless MVP. Right now I have it running in wired mode and its horribly choppy. Mostly its the audio thats choppy, but the video is pretty bad as well. I'm not terribly picky, but this is absolutely horrible. Its definitely not watchable.

Is there any way to fix this? I bought this unit from PC Alchemy and I'm tempted just to return it for a refund, rather than replacement. Its too bad too, since this unit apparently doesn't have the dark s-video output problem that seems to be common.

Try this reg import from hauppauge: http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/faq/s...diamvp.html#13
Just follow the prompts.

If you have an intel NIC, you can try disabling the tcp offloading feature. (Do this in device manager.)

It tells you where to go in the FAQ just below the above link.

Are your sage server and wired mvp connected to the same switch?

Have tried resetting the power to the switch?

What is the wired mvp linking up? (ie. 10mbps or 100mbps)

What if you ping the ip address of the mvp with a -t and let it run. Do you get any dropped packets? (Say out of 50 requests, any "request timed out"?)

Is playback ok on the server?

Hopefully this gets something going. I fought with my mvp too, but it's awesome once it works.

Thanks for the quick response. I have it working mostly better now. It turns out that it was still using the wireless connection, even though I had the wire plugged in. It kept using the wireless connection, even though wired was prefered, until I just blocked the MVP's MAC address. It helped a lot switching to the wired connection, although I'm pretty disappointed with the performance using the wireless connection.

Second, and this one was odd, apparently the audio cable I was using was bad, because switching that helped a lot.

I still think the video looks a little choppy, so I'm going to try the registry optimizations. But, I'm pretty happy with it now.

Good deal! Yeah the wifi is worthless on these. If you are bent on getting wifi, just get the wired mvp's and use a wireless bridge. It works well like this. I just bought a wmvp this week, and using the built-in wifi the video is unwatchable, but using the wifi bridge it is perfect. Just goes to show the wifi card on the mvp is sh!t.

I'm pretty happy with my MVP now. But, I've been having problems with the spdif output on the unit. It seems to be extremely picky when it comes to cables. The only cable that I've been able to use for the digital-out is the A/V cable that came with the unit. I have other, presumably nicer, cables that result in the audio briefly skipping every couple minutes.

Also, I'm sort of unhappy with the responsiveness of the remote. Navigating the menus can be pretty irritating. I've heard that the JVM version on the server can influence that. I have 1.4.2 running on the server because I think 1.5 was giving me stability problems. I noticed that there's a new version of 1.5 out. Is there reason to believe installing that would help?

The skipping is pretty bad now when I use spdif. Every couple minutes the audio skips. I thought it was a cable issue at first, and to some extent the problem was exacerbated by cables, but it must be the unit itself. Since the audio plays fine over analog-out I assume there's no way it could be a Sage issue, could it?

Apologies for resurrecting this thread, but I'm experiencing the exact same problem. Has a solution to this ever been found? I'm running the latest Sage version.

I'm not sure what is causing it. I think its a hardware issue. But, I found a cable that works pretty well. It occasionally skips, but now I think its mostly from my TV card, since it usually skips at the same point. I called Hauppauge about it a couple months ago. The tech support guy I talked to hadn't heard from anyone else with the same complaint.

If you end up RMAing your unit, tell me how it goes. Its not that bad right now, but I'd certainly send it in if I thought it would fix the remaining problems.
