If I got your line-up unencrypted up here (by Conroe), I would be be

USA, TNT, SciFi, and the History channel are the ones that I really miss out on. Heck, with your line-up, I could just drop all my analog tuners completely

I'm just wondering if there will be any changes to the QAM lineup (for better or worse) now that we're Comcast. So far the changeover has been in name only, but I guess it's possible we could see programming/infrastructure changes. Hopefully Comcast doesn't decide to encrypt everything.

Had a message on my comcast pvr (which will being going away in a week or two when I am comfortable my homerun setup is stable) this morning indicating that the digital music stations will be encrypted starting Jan 23 (Seattle area). This did not include the local radio stations that are being rebroadcast digitally. I will update my list earlier in this post after I verify on the 23rd that the channels are encrypted.

The Music Choice digital music channels are now encrypted. Has me laughing. I keep reading about some of the cable companies opening additional content up and here is comcast buttoning additional stuff down. If they start encrypting the network channels, I'm canceling all my service with them (cable and internet.)

I'm in Houston (south).

Just got TimeWarner (Comcast) yesterday.
I currently only have Digital SD.
If I'm reading this right, I should get HD Digital and instead of using S-Video to my PVR500, I should instead be using coax to one of the two inputs on my hd homerun.

Is that correct?

I would give it a try. Getting the QAM signal straight to the PC should be better than analog S-Video, plus you should be able to pick up the unencrypted HD local networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CW, PBS).

But by doing so, I lose all of the other digital channels from that box, right?

And in order to use both inputs of the HD homerun, I'd need two HD digital boxes from the cable company, right?

That could get expensive.
Would I be able to tune ALL digital channels then? Fer example, could I still tune boomerang on ch 343? If not, my son would be mighty upset!

I'll do some playing around with this this weekend.

You don't use a cable box with the HDHomeRun. All you do is connect the coax directly to the HDHomeRun.

Ok.
That's what I was hoping and that makes sense.
They (timewarner) told me all my HD channels (even locals) were encrypted.
What do I set my HD Homerun to in order to get these channels? (The qam settings)

I tried what you said briefly and it didn't work, but obviously I'm doing something wrong.

Unfortunately, the HDHomeRun will not tune encrypted channels. You can only receive the ones which are broadcast in the clear.

If your cable company is truly encrypting every QAM channel I think you may be out of luck.

Well, I am time warner houston, so if others in the area are using it, I *should* be ok.

We'll see though. I probably will test it tonight or tomorrow.

My Cable Co told me that all my channels would be encrypted - including the locals - as well. I did not find that to be the case. I just went through, on channel and one subchannel at a time. I get all my locals and a few others.

I'm hoping that's the case with mine.

it's taking a long time to scan for them all.
I'll have lots of remapping to do tomorrow, but looks like I'll have a bunch of channels.

Can y'all stand one more question?

please...

So I've got it working.

Haven't confirmed 100%, but similar to farscape's lineup:

77-2 Bravo
77-3 LMN (Lifetime Movie Network)
77-4 WE
77-5 AMC
77-6 Versus
77-7 National Geographic
77-8 ESPN Classic
77-9 Court TV
78-1 Hallmark
78-2 Golf
78-3 MSNBC
78-4 Travel Channel
78-9 Animal Planet
79-1 PBS HD
79-6 Houston PBS 8
79-11 CW39
87-10 Shopathometv
88-1 KPRC NBC HD
88-2 ABC News
88-3 KTRK ABC HD
88-4 ABC Weather
88-5 NBC Weather
88-6 NBC Live Dopplar
92-1 KHOU CBS HD
92-2 FOX HD
92-3 CBS Weather
113-1 WGN9 Superstation

so this is really good. It's not everything, but it's very good.

But....
How do I use this AND continue to use my digital cable box? Can they co-exist together using different lineups? If so, how?

I've got my digital cable box using houston time warner digital (getting a lot more channels than this) plus my hd homerun using the same lineup but getting a lot less channels.

How do I enable boomerang for my son and MAKE SURE it records with the digital cable box and not with the HD Homerun?

And how do I make sure the digital cable box doesn't try to tune an HD channel I get with my hd homerun?

Help!
