Girder and Java 1.6
I've been using Girder 3.2x with a USB-UIRT for the past few years w/o any problems (it's the one thing on my Sage box that has always worked). I finally got around to trying the latest Java 1.6. The system seemed snappier, my car got better gas mileage, my kids got along, but my remote no longer worked in Sage. I uninstalled Java 1.6 and the remote started working again. Any ideas? Thanks.

Yikes, thanks for the head's up. I too am running Girder 3.2x (whatever the last free version was), so unless there's some compelling reason to upgrade to Java 1.6 I think I'll stick with 1.4 and save myself the headache of having to change all the window class entries.

Reposting here for ease of searching:
If you are using Window Class Names in Girder to specify the target of SendMessages, it will not work if you run sage with Java JRE 1.6 Beta -- Java no longer sets the class name for a window, and so all Java apps will use the same class names of 'SunAwtFrame' To fix this, in the target settings of Girder, specify 'Sage' in the executable name, enable substring matching and specify 'SunAwtFrame' as the window class name. Sun do not consider it to be a regression bug (despite it being behaviour that worked perfecty well in JRE 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 and 1.5, and the change in behaviour was a result of a poor fix for another bug.) so, if you are a Java SDN member, please vote for this bug to be fixed: http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view...bug_id=6480100
