Sonic decoder not showing up

I have a few different decoders installed on my box (Nvidia, Sonic Cinemaster, Cyberlink). I use Nvida for video and Sonic CM for audio (decodes better for HD) At one time I had used Sonic for both audio and video. Now Sonic is no longer listed as decoders that I can select. The settings are still there so it still uses them it just won't let me select them.

I have tried removing and reinstalling them but Sage will not show them as selectable. I used Microsofts DECCHECK utility to verify they were there and they are. Any ideas how to get these back in Sage so I can select them? I installed Cineplayer to get them installed. I used the same install package to install Cineplayer on a client I am testing and they show up fine there???

I am using Sage 6 beta but wasn't sure that was the correct location to post so Andy can move me there if he likes

I'm guessing you installed Easy Media Creator 9 that includes the newest version of the Sonic decoders? The new versions of many decoders aren't detected by SageTV (Sonic 4.x decoder, Cyberlink PowerDVD 7.x)

You can get around this by getting the Radlight filter manager and setting the merit of the decoders you want to use to "preferred". Then set SageTV to default for the decoder and it should then use the decoder you want.

Sage v6 has no problem detecting PowerDVD 7.x decoders on my system.

Ah I 'm still on v5. I installed PowerDVD 7 and it doesn't show up on the decoder list, so I used the above method to get it working.

I finally found it. Windows Media Center 2005 had installed some an update that added or installed the Sonic DVD and CD Burner I went into contral panel and removed it and Cineplayer then cleaned the registry and hard drive. Rebooted the PC and reinstalled and they were returned. Thanks for the input.

Sonic Decoder

I too have the same problem as far as upgrading my Sonic Decoder and now it does not show up as an option in Sage.

I downloaded the Radlight Filter Manager and can see the codec under DirectX stuff.....

But, I'll be damned if I can figure out how to register it to make it the default decoder.....

Can you explain step by step how to do this?

thanks,
-JD

I'm assuming you mean about the uninstall portion (you may be refering to the radlight which I am unfamiliar with) This only applys to Windows Media Center Edition 2005 not standard XP. I am not familiar with how to use Radlight but I used Microsofts DECCheck and it will let you set one as default.

I went into Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components, and unchecked Sonic CD and DVD Burning. This removed that then I uninstalled Cineplayer and deleted the directory it used. After searching the registry (normal warnings about editing registry apply) and deleting references to Cineplayer and checking other references to Sonic and deleting as necessary, I rebooted and reinstalled Cineplayer (or in your case the decoder pack), rebooted and all was well.

If this is not what you were looking for, please disregard but if it is good luck.

Here is what I did to correct the problem with the Sonic Cineplayer decoder not showing up in Sage:
( It looks similar to what you described above)

First uninstall all versions of Cineplayer and then perform a clean install as described below:

Clean install:

First uninstall all Sonic products through Add/Remove programs and then delete the following folder if they exist:
C:\Program Files\Sonic
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sonic Shared
C:\Documents and Settings\-username-\Application Data\Sonic

If you cant find an application data folder, while in the Windows Explorer window browsing for these folders, select Tools, Folder Options, View tab, and select Show Hidden Files and Folders. Hit OK and look again.

Now go to Start, regedit, and delete the following folders by right clicking on them and selecting delete:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Sonic
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sonic

To ensure that you have removed as many traces of the program as possible or Add/remove Programs fails during uninstalling read about and download the following Microsoft cleanup utility and then run it removing all Sonic programs from the list.

Cleanup Utility: http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;290301

Then reboot and reinstall.

As you said,
'Good luck'....
Thanks for you help,
-JD
