upgrade proceedure?

what is the upgrade procedure going from version 2 to version 5? Am hoping to keep all of my settings, favorites, etc. also what version of Java should i have for v5?

The beta forum has a set of instructions for How to install a new version of SageTV. You could simply install over the top of the existing installation, making sure to install to the same exact directory as last time, but those instructions help keep the ability to fairly easily revert after the upgrade. The forum FAQ thread also has an entry.

For java, unless you need a different version for something else, I would just stick with v1.4, which is what SageTV includes in the installer.
