from bad to worse

I have been running SageTV v2 since Feb 2005. Lots of problems getting it working but since then it has been great. Recently sage began aborting, sometimes rebooting on its own. I requested sage help and George Oms suggested I install ver. 5; did that but now it won't change channels to record a show. Last night I changed the channel manually and the recording came out blank! Too weird...stock Hauppauge 150 with plug in IR that worked before the "upgrade". The irremote.ini file was missing from the sagetv directory but still under windows so I copied that over to sage. That got the remote to work but only if I start sage with the mouse first. When I use Sagetv's program guide, select a channel and the IR will flash to change the channel but the comcast box will not change the channel. The comcast box still responds to it's own remote so I doubt there is a problem with the box.
Can anyone guide me in troubleshooting the channel change issue?
Sage support has taken me from occasional problem to nonfunctional.
