Sorry for the incorrect naming of the decoders. My cpu playing tv show stayed around 30% to 40%. Using nvidia VMR9 or overlay. It didn't matter which one, mine cpu never went above 45%. Only when using sagetv dvd player with nvidia or default decoder or sagetv decoder did the cpu jump to 100%. This is before I installed ffdshow.

Just uninstalled everything (theatertek, ffdshow, sagetv, the capture card and video card). Folder and reg entries. Installed the video card(xfx 7600gs), capture card(fusion hdtv lite) and sagetv 6.0. Configure sagetv to use the only decoder available(sagetv mpeg decoder). Tried to watch Dr.Phil and the cpu is at 100%.
My video output is at 1920 x 1080p over dvi. Just used microsoft decheck. It say sagetv mpeg decoder not compatible with MP10. I assume that means windows media player 10. Last I check micorsoft was up to 11. Last edited by eded9698; 12-19-2006 at 02:30 PM. |

1080p?
Did you not install the latest Nvidia drivers from here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_93.71.html And the latest Nvidia Pure Video from here (assuming you purchased it): http://www.nvidia.com/object/dvd_dec...23-retail.html And if you didnt buy pure video decoder yet, get a trial here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/dvd_dec...223-trial.html Install 93.71 first, then pure video on top of that.

What source did Dr. Phil come from? Is it HD? If so then 100% cpu usage with the Sage decoder should be expected. You need a decoder like the Nvidia decoder that takes advantage of your hardware's acceleration capabilities. Especially if you intend to do HD playback.

Are the decoders bundled with theatertek the latest from nvidia?

This is the problem I had from the start. Why would sagetv release software that doesn't do what it advertised to do. It can record HD but it can't play HD without the help of another decoder. Which cost more money. I guess playing HD video isn't important at this time.
Yes, 93.71 installed. No pure video yet. Was trying the advise given. Start from the beginning, with just sagetv Last edited by eded9698; 12-19-2006 at 04:09 PM. |

Tried playing 1080i tv shows with nvidia decoder 93.71 VMR9 and its ok. there is still some stuttering. Tried same decoder with ripped dvd and the cpu jumps to 100%. Switch to the sagetv mpeg decoder and the same problem. 100% cpu.

Did you rip the dvd in file mode? And are all the .vob files contained in a VIDEO_TS folder? Some players are finicky in how they are ripped and they are looking for the standard format. Did you rip the whole disc or just the movie?

Also, make sure you are not selecting "Nvidia Post Processor" in SageTV. That is a "software" decoding option, and will still be relying more on your CPU than your video card. You need to select Nvidia PureVideo Decoder" or "Default" (only use default if deccheck says Nvidia is the preferred decoder). Also, click on the "PureVideo" icon in the systray while you are playing back a file. On the PureVideo properties screen, make sure that Hardware Acceleration is checked ON. This will ensure that Sage tries to offload everything it can to the video card, and save your CPU cycles for more important tasks. As was mentioned before, your video card should be more than adequate to playback HD content. Its now just a matter of tweaking your settings in your decoder or your software. |

Deccheck say nvidia is the default. There are only two, nvidia and sage mpeg decoder. I did not select nvidia post. Its hard to make any changes to the decoder because the cpu is at 100%. The only thing I can do is move the mouse when the movie is trying to play. I'll try to see if Hardware Acceleration is checked while the movie is playing in media player.
The whole disc has been ripped. |

You do know there's separate settings used for DVD playback, right? (it's under the DVD section in Detailed Setup) Just wanted to make sure it wasn't that simple...

Just out of curiosity, it would be interesting to see what graphedit builds for a filter graph on one of your VOB files.
