One More NewB Question! HDTV comskip

Okay, I have set up server/client for OTA HDTV and also enabled webserver. So far so good. I have one more task left.

automatic HDTV comskip

I've done some research but many were outdated and too much information.

What is the simplest way to achieve HD (not SD) comskip?

The best way, IMO, is ShowAnalyzer+Dirmon to do the scanning, and one of the EDL supporting comskip imports. There should be plenty of info on setting up that combo floating around.

If you have comskip working with SD, it should work fine with HD, does for me anyways.

Just remember, it takes comskip much (3 or 4 times over) longer to get thru an HD file than an SD.

Erik's current version(s) of comskip work well on both HD and SD shows. http://www.kaashoek.com/comskip/

And like stanger89 said, ShowAnalyzer also works.

Comskip Monitor is a free solution that is working quite well for me. You may want to pick up the latest version of Comskip here as it's frequently updated.

For playback I use the Comskip Playback import with the default STV, but if you're using SageMC I believe it already has playback support built-in.

So here's what I found after extensive research and testing.

1. edl is better than txt
2. comskip.exe is free and faster than showanalyzer
3. showanalyzer is more accurate

How's your experience?

I think the not free version of SA is way faster than comskip, at least it used to be (I'm assuming comskip hasn't changed much speed wise, which might be wrong).

On my X2 4200 SA scans at over 800fps, and that's drive/network limited, not CPU limited.

Oh, and FWIW, the only reason there's a fee for SA is to cover the licensing of the MPEG decoder (I'm not entirely sure how Comskip et all get around that).
