Still Tearing

Any updates concerning the tearing of video in SageTV 6.

I initially had 5 installed and then switched to 6 hoping the issue would be resolved but no such luck.

I am using the following setup.

AMD Processor 2.1 GHZ
512MB RAM
[2] PVR150 Cards
Nvidia FX5200 Graphics card
Nvidia Pure Video Decoders

Any insight would be appreciated.

A better video card would help. I have a 6600GT and also a 6200 in a couple of clients with no tearing. SD resolution. VMR9 and nVidia PV decoders.

Forgot to mention I tried an Nvidia 7600GT and it made no difference.

This was a PCI Express card on another system and it had the same tearing issues.

I tried

default settings
vmr9 overlay
directx9 changing the file back to the b version
messed with 3d acceleration
tried different nvida drivers

etc, etc, etc

What's the source of the recordings that are tearing?

Stanger,

Yes I have with the FX5200 and I got no video whatsover.

I did not try it with the 7800.

Update: I ordered a new 7800 for my Primary SageTV unit, it is AGP but I am hoping the upgrade will help.

I will put the FX5200 in the kids machines for some games he has.

The 7800 PCI Express I tried is not available to me for SageTV at this time, and I had some extra christmas money so I figured what the hey

You need Full Screen Exclusive if you plan to have smooth playback with a Nvidia card and VMR9. This will probably be true of your new card as well.

I think you could get smooth playback with the 5200. I was able to get smooth playback with VMR9 on a lowly GeForce3 Ti200, but it took a little tweaking and I was only doing 1280x1024. Of course the newer card should be much better due to all the purevideo features.

I realize this doesn't help but my setup that includes an FX5200 doesn't suffer from tearing. Actually the system specs are very close to yours. I'm using FSE and VMR9. I only have one tuner though.

I wonder why I cant get FSE to function with my setup?

I am only using 640x480 for SDTV and I had no issues with this card under Windows MCE, but I do understand they use a slightly different approach after reading up on the subject.

Atomic - could you post your video and DVD settings so I can compare them to mine. It would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I dont see any mention of FSE in my sageclient.properties file

unkyjoe, you list your settings as

Quote:
default settings
vmr9 overlay
directx9 changing the file back to the b version
messed with 3d acceleration
tried different nvida drivers
Does this mean you've tried to use FSE under both VMR9 and overlay? I can imagine getting black screen if you combine FSE and overlay.

Here's another thread in which the FSE dealy bop is discussed. If you're not using sage client, then sage.properties would be the relevant file. Note you must completely quit sage (not just put it to sleep) before manually editing this file.

That's the way it reads for me now, and it works great.

To Quote Montgomery Burns: Excellent

I turned VMR9 back on for Video and DVD
Enabled FSE Mode
Checked the file as discribed.
Rebooted Sage

No more tearing!

Thanks to all of you for your help, the problem was I was not exiting out of Sage after changing the settings, once I exited and then ran Sage again all was well.

P.S The picture looks awesome on my 56 Mitsubishi TV and pretty darn good on my X1 projector. Much better than my DirecTivo or MCE.

You can change it in Detailed Setup as well.
