Multiple tuners. Can you specify a primary?

I've set up a SageTV server (Ver 6) using a hauppage USB2-PVR tuner. Works great, and I'm utilizing it so much I'm considering adding a second tuner. I'd like CC support so I'm thinking about a Hauppage 350 for the second one. If I do this, can I specify in what order the tuners should be used? Always use the 350 first, for example? I looked through the manual and did not see this discussed.

Another Q...I have one client license installed on my main PC, and also one placeshifter license installed on the server. If I have two tuners, can I then watch two different channels simultaneously on the PC? One using the client and one using the placeshifter license? If so, which one gets the audio? It's be sorta cool watching two games at once on one monitor.

I don't think I'd recommend the 350, too many issues if you want to use the video out, and if your not, why spend the extra money for the unused features. If you want CC, there is now CC support for the following hauppuage tuners; 150, 250, 350, and 500 that I know about.

And yes, you can specific a tuner preference that that a specific tuner should be used first, if possible. The setting is "encoder_merit" in sage.properties. 0 being least preferred, and set the next least at 1, and so on, which the most preferred having the highest number.

I have used the USB PVR2 with both the 150 and 500, so those combinations should be no problem as well...GL!

JDS, so you got CC working with the 150 and 500? I thought I was talking to myself in the other threads. No one mentioned that they got it working. I knew I had 2 Sage setups working with CC, but everyone seemed to have problems.

Thanks guys. I hadn't investigated the individual models very closely yet, so that helps. I see that the 500 has dual tuners. Does that meant that if I added a 500 along with the current usb2 PVR that I'd actually have 3? That'd be great if they all play nicely together.

Any thoughts on whether a client and a placeshifter can simultaneously display two different channels on one PC?

Yup, a 500 has dual tuners, and if added with the USB2, you'd have three. They should work together just fine. Hauppuage has been real good with supporting multiple tuners in their drivers, and Sage supports multiple tuners as well.

Just tried client + placeshifter. Got them both to run at the same time with different content. BOTH had audio running, stepping on each other. Just mute the one you don't want. As for video, my placeshifter wasn't showing video, just the audio, but its like that even with placeshifter by itself. Maybe a Java issue.

Glad to hear it. I looked at the USB2 drivers, but didn't see anything about CC in the release notes. Since I don't have a USB2, You are on your own on that one

As for auto-CC on mute, that would be cool. I too have no clue when it comes to Studio. Hopefully with more people having CC capabilities with the new 150/500 drivers, there will be more demand for auto-CC on mute.
