v. 6 will not install
I tried installing v.6 over v.5 and it says it installed correctly, but when I start the program it still says v.5. No new directories are present for SageTV, so I can't figure out why it's not working. Would it have to do with the .STV I'm using (with customizations, etc.)?

The System Information screen lists the SageTV version and the STV version. (I would not use a pre-v6 STV with v6.) Is that where you are checking the version number?
I would double check the installer that was run and do a search for SageTV.exe to make sure there are no other install locations somehow. - Andy

Yeah, that's where I'm looking at it says v.5, and I am using a pre-6 STV. Actually, I've tried it with both 6 and 5 (customized) STVs, both say v.5. No other install locations. No other instances of Sage whatsoever.

v5 shouldn't even properly load a v6 STV, unless that v6 STV has been manualy edited to remove a few things that v5 doesn't know how to handle.
I would try uninstalling SageTV, then reinstall v6, making sure to install it in the same location so that it will continue to use your existings settings and recordings/viewing data. You could make a complete copy of the install dir first, in order to save every file 'just in case'. - Andy
