Sage as a network encoder
Morning,
I'd like some more instruction on using Sage as a network encoder - Appendix G is rather lacking as far as setup goes. Once you have changed the encoding server setting to true and the encoder discovery to true the instructions pretty much stop. I assumed at this point I would just go into source setup and would be able to see the other machines card as a source for setup - this didn't happen for me. Do I need to follow some of the old documentation for sage recorder to make this work, or should it just show up? Everything I have seen seems to indicate that this should work with Sage v4 and up. I'm using a full piad Sage v4.1.3 on my main server that has been running for over a year, and I set up a new machine with a trial of v4.1.3. Yes I posted about network encoding before but I didn't recieve any satisfactory answers to my question, hence my rephrasing of the question and the repost. TIA for any help you can offer. |

That should just work. If it doesn't; check to make sure you made the property settings while SageTV was not running AND also make sure you don't have a firewall blocking the communication.
If it still doesn't work then enable logging 'debug_logging=TRUE' and post your log files from both machines.

Thanks for the quick reply Jeff.
No firewall, I turned the windows firewall off on both machines. Initially I had problems with the setting staying true because I forgot that the sagetvservice.exe was running in the background - shut that off and the setting stayed at true on my original server. I'll get the logs together today at some point. |

ummm silly question - is debug_logging in the "sage.properties" file? If so I don't have that option, so I added it in.
Once enabled where do the logs get stored and what are they called? |

You could try and see if anything else is using the relevant port on the encoding machine. With Sage switched off, do a 'netstat' on the command line to see if port 6969 is being used on the encoding server.
