Question Playback Error (-4,0x80040217) SAGE 6 Error

Brand new OS install, brand new licensed sage 6 install (build 19).

Computer comes out of standby and I can't tune anything in full screen just to watch live TV(Rosebowl). Instead I get "There was a playback error in playback. Details sage.playbackexception: error(-4,0x80040217): There was a problem rendering the video portion of the content for playback. Also, can't record either... same error.

So I stop sage and restart it. I can now watch in a window but not fullscreen. Going to full screen hangs the computer.

Reboot. All is good again.

But I come from a ReplayTV world where everything just always worked. Replay also scheduled a reboot every few days in the middle of the night when nothing was recording... something I'm wondering if Sage needs to do as well? This Sage 6 I bought 2 weeks ago needs babysitting... stuff might not record with these kinds of errors. I got this as a hopeful replacement to my ReplayTVs but is this Windows based technology just not ready for primetime?

Anyway, anyone else with this bug? or just me?

someone else might have better ideas, but I used to see that error when I was trying SageTV (and still had BeyondTV). Basically, in my case, BeyondTV had grabbed the tunercard, and it had hosed Sage. When I uninstalled BeyondTV, the problem went away.

What OS are you running on?

MCE05, with all MCE services disabled. It works generally... then will blow an error like this after a few days. Or, for example, last week the remote control (also bundled with the Sage package I bought) became quite sluggish needing me to really "squish" the buttons... and again, a reboot made all well again.

But for me, I was hoping to just run this and not think about daily reboots. NOTHING else happens on this computer except Sage. No browsing... not any gaming... it is in the entertainment cabinet EXCLUSIVELY for Sage. With a clean install of OS, drivers, and Sage.

Red face

I'd be happy to file a report. Is there an official link for for that? Where would the log be?

And I don't mean any offense by my question about stability. I just want stability like I've had with Replay for many many years and am doing what I can do personally (I think) to do that (clean install, no other use for this server).

Is there any setting for a "maintenance" reboot?

This FAQ explains how to enable debug logging, where the files can be located, and where to send the logs.

Also, my sig lines and the main forum index page have links to the tech support request form.

Thank you. I will enable debugging and wait for it to happen again.
