Black screen-can't see UI!

New user working on the demo version of v6. Was playing around with the .stv files and didn't get to the part in the manual about backing up wiz.bin and the other files. Things were working fine, had downloaded SageMC and a couple of others and was using them happily except for some unrelated issues.

Tried to switch to a different theme in SageMC and was told to restart the UI. That requires getting out of bed and fiddling with the computer, so I decided to switch back to the default stv instead. The default stv started to load then hung, so that I could see both SageMC and the default stv overlaid on each other. Remote stopped working at that point.

So I had to get out of bed anyway. Restarted Sage and got the "this software is not free" message and the splash screen, then Sage loaded as a screenful of nothing--pure black. alt-tabbed out of it and rebooted, got the same thing.

Went to /sagetv/sagetv/stvs and changed the file path of the existing files to hide them from Sage. Downloaded the default SageTv3.xml from the forums and extracted the zip to the /stvs folder. Fired up sage. It hangs on the splash screen with the message "user interface manager is initializing"

Now what?

It's late, I'm going to bed, will check for suggestions in the AM before I head out to work.

Did you actually remove the <install path>\SageTV\STVs\SageTV3 directory and/or files in that dir? If so, I suggest you just uninstall and reinstall because all the graphics files & so on for the default STV are in that location. You'll get no UI without them.

Otherwise, just exit SageTV (and the service, if using it), delete your sage.properties files (and sageclient.properties and autobackup versions), then reconfigure it all when you restart SageTV. If that still doesn't work, then reinstall.

Thanks Andy, removing the properties files and installing the xml file in the right place did the trick--way easier than a full uninstall/reinstall!
