Can't listen to MP3s on Mac placeshifter

I can't seem to listen to any MP3s on the Mac placeshifter. When I go to play an MP3 file, the UI shows it a s being played, but the time does not change from 0:00 and I never hear audio.

This occurs with the 6.0.19 Placeshifter on both my MacBook Pro and my G5 iMac when connecting via the internet. Generally it seems to work fine locally on my network, although the G5 has had the same issue connecting locally a couple of times.

I think FidgetyRat may have reported this problem, but it was buried in another thread...

Can you check if you are getting a crash log from mplayer ?

Its called mplayer.crash.log and would be located at ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter. All entries have this line :

Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)
Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000000

Thread 0 Crashed:
0 mplayer 0x000c295c demux_mpg_ps_open + 40

Are there any mac/placeshifter users getting mp3 playback ? I managed to sort the video playback by creating a new user (implying the problem is something related to my regular user)

Tim

I've got mp3 playback on my 13" 1.83Ghz macbook via placeshifter no problem. I've only tested wirelessly over LAN not over the internets.

I get pretty much the worst performance imaginable out of the Mac version. I guess its meant for one of those new fancy dual core machines.

Yes, I only have the issue connecting via the internet.

Nope, no mplayer crashes here.

Are we talking about the same log? I was referring to console.log. Mplayer dumps a lot of messages there..

That was my guess initially. I run a G4 1ghz powerbook and have with no problems for many many years. Even heavy development apps can run flawlessly.. I never had a single program hurt this machine.. except this place shifter app. It runs awful. I really would bet its written and optimized for the intels.

Not saying the placeshifter app is bad. Im sure it runs great for the fancy new macs. I just wouldn't call it a "universal" binary.

Its definitely a Universal binary :

/Desktop/SageTV Placeshifter.app/Contents/Macos $ file *
SageTV Placeshifter: Mach-O fat file with 2 architectures
SageTV Placeshifter (for architecture ppc): Mach-O executable ppc
SageTV Placeshifter (for architecture i386): Mach-O executable i386

But your problem is bad quality playback right ? I'm not getting *any* audio

Tim

mp3 playback fixed in 6.1.3

Seems to be fixed in 6.1.3 - I can hear them now.

Although, the client crashes when browsing albums (similar to the jpeg rendering bug in 6.0.18 on my server)

I'll try an older version and report my findings to support

Cheers

Tim

BTW - I also fixed my video playback problem by removing my sage preferences file - SageTVPlaceshifter.properties from /Users/me/.sagetv
