Upgrade to 6.0 Questions

I will be upgrading to 6.0 soon. Sounds like a simple task but here is some additional information:

- I will be doing the upgrading to a new machine.
- Originally purchased 4.0 therefore I will be purchasing the 6.0 upgrade.
- Currently running SageTV 5.0
- Running SageTV on Windows XP Pro

Questions:

- Process of upgrading to a new machine? Do I need to install 4.0 then upgrade to 6.0? Or can I just install 6.0 on the new machine?
- How do I migrate the recordings from my old machine to the new machine?

Well that is it. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You do not need to install v4 on the new machine first, but you will need both your original license and the upgrade license.

There is a FAQ entry that talks about moving all your recordings & recording data (wiz.bin) to a new PC.

Opus, I'm confused.. If I am running version 5, and I want to upgrade, do I buy the upgrade or do I have to be using version 4?

It isn't important what version you are currently running; what is important is the version of the license key that you have -- i.e.: what version of SageTV you purchased.

You can install v6 on top of any previous version of SageTV, but if you purchased SageTV prior to the release of v5, then you will need an upgrade license for your v6 server.

how much?

Is there a price break for owners of an older licence, or do we pay the full $80?

I originally purchased 4, then upgraded to 5 but have had computer crashes and no longer have my keys, can I get them sent to me? I'm wanting to upgrade to 6 (currently have the trial installed) and want to save a few bucks.

Probably get placeshifter so can stream to another computer over the internet (if I'm reading the capabilities correctly).

Edit: whoops, found key instructions in FAQ.

Sage Client and Media Extender from v4 to v6

Do I need to buy keys for Sage, Sage Client, and the Media extender to go from 2.8, 3, 4, 5 and now 6? I believe I bought something very early. . .maybe 2.8?

Thanks

You only have to buy an upgrade license for each copy of the Full Sage version (for you main Sage server, plus any network encoder servers) you are using, if you license is V4 or earlier. Sage Client and the Placeshifter/Media Extender License do not need to be upgraded.
