Brightness - shows are too dark
Hello - Is there any way to control the brightness of the videos. I tried playing them outside of Sage with Windows Media Player as a test and I could not adjust the brightness. It would continue to reset itself back to the center. Yet, with other non sage mpg files, I can adjust the brightness in media player. I'm thinking it has to do with the kind of mpg Sage is creating (I'm using dvd standard).
Outside of adjusting the brightness on the picture, I'm wondering if there is another way. The problem with adjusting the brightness on the picture is that the Guide and the computer monitor itself is fine but the Sage mpg files are a little too dark. The Video Source color calibrations are all set to their defaults. I'm thinking that I can adjust the brightness somewhere in software. Thanks, Mike |

If you are using nvidia drivers, I found that I had the same problem with v91.xx drivers. Adjusting the brightness and contrast in the nvidia console would temporarily work, but would revert back when I exited the console. I then updated to the latest drivers (93.71, I think) and the default settings now look good. HTH
Aloha, Mike

I'll check that out but it still does not explain why the color settings in windows media player won't allow me to adjust the brightness. Something in the mpg file that Sage creates is preventing adjusting of brightness. It's just a little on the dark side.
I do know that on my other workstation I can actually adjust the brightness by going into the graphics card settings. Also, it seems that it (ATI) adjusts it for what plays in media players such as Sage, windows media, etc and not on the rest of the computer screen. It's like it has its own separate brightness setting. Thanks, Mike |

Mike,
I have a similar issue with the workstation in my room. I tend to watch darker shows there than in my living room. I discovered that my nVidia graphics console has a small drop down menu in its color correction settings that allow me to switch between overlay and desktop. If I switch to the overlay setting it will just adjust the color for the program that is in focus (just as you mentioned for your ATI machine). Alternatively, you can always adjust the brightness (and contrast, hue, etc.) on a per tuner basis from the tuner settings menu within Sage. Though I believe that these adjustments will change the color on all of your other monitors as well. That is to say, the program itself will be recorded at a brighter setting if you adjust the brightness from here. I know this doesn't answer your WMP question, but I hope it will at least provide some options for you. Last edited by petereader; 01-05-2007 at 09:25 AM. |
