Why do I want To Change Formats?
Ok...I know it sounds silly...
But if I don't want to put my videos onto my IPOD (or PSP, etc) or if I didn't want to save space...would I want to convert my videos to a different format? Is there any benefit? Thanks! rwc

Uhhh, you just listed the only 2 reasons I can think of for compressing/transcoding video files:
Saving space and playback on handheld devices. Edit: OK I can kind of think of a third. Remember, live transcoding is use for the placeshifter. If you already had transcoded files (at a suffeciently small bitrate) you wouldnt need to re-transcode for the placeshifter.
