Setting favorites based on HD or not

Hi all,

I just got an HD homerun and am trying to figure the best way to integrate its two HD qam tuners into my setup. My server is an Athlon 64 3500+, mobo ECS rs-482-m (integrated ati Radeon xpress 200 graphics) with 1 gig ram and 2 pvr 150s. I am currently using this to push 2 MVPs, one connected to a 26" Toshiba crt 1080i HDTV and the other to a small SDtv in the bedroom. What I want to do is record the shows in HD using sage and watch the files on my HDTV via a 1.83 ghz Core duo Macbook and record shows in SD for playback over the MVPs.

My problem is that I want to record mostly the same shows on the analog channels via the pvr 150s as on the digital channels via the HD Homerun. My server doesn't have to power to transcode the HD files recorded by the HDHR for playback via the MVPs so i need to have my shows recorded in both formats. I can't seem to figure out how to tell sage to record the favorite on both channels, the analog SD channel and the Digital HD channel. Has anyone else dealt with this scenario?

I'd appreciate any advice.

Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt,

You will need to set up two separate favorites for each show. One of the favorites will be set to record only on the SD channel and the other will be set to record only on the HD channel.

An easy way would be to find an upcoming SD broadcast of the show in the guide. Tell sage to record the series as a favorite. In the series settings be sure and specify only the SD channel you found it on in the guide. Then go and do exactly the same with an upcoming HD broadcast.

HTH

I went through the tedious process of setting up favorites based on channel. It is kind of a nightmare though because it takes away one of the advantages of favorites, mainly I now have to know if a show is going to air on a specific channel before sage will record it. After I finished, sage is still recording shows only on the HD channels. For example I've set smallville up as a favorite for channel KSTW with favorite number 37. I have also set smallville up as a favorite on channel KSTWDT with favorite number 74. The new smallville is st to air Thursday at 8. Even though the sd channel airing is clearly higher ranked in favorites sage has scheduled only the digitial HD channel to record. In fact sage is not utilizing the two pvr-150s at that time at all so there are no conflicts that way. Sage has done the exact same thing with the airings of The Office and My Name is Earl. There has got to be a way to make sage understand that the SD airings should have the higher priority. I thought the favorites served that function.

Anyone have any ideas here?

Matt

My guess is that the setting prefer_hdtv_recordings_over_sdtv=true in Sage.properties does take preference over the favorite priority. Try to change this and see if it makes a difference.
