Lost Overlay playback
We were watching TV the other night, and all of a sudden, the screen went blank, and the PC rebooted. When SageTV restarted, we would get the following error during playback:
Code:
sage.playbackException:ERROR(-4,0x80040217) There was a problem rendering the video poertion of the content for playback Any suggestions? I'm considering doing a SageTV re-install over my current install to see if that helps, but I'm not optimistic. I really don't look forward to having to co a complete re-install.... Any suggestions?

I had a problem similar to this. I was using VMR 9 and wanted to switch to overlay but I would get the playback exception.
I was able to get around that by disabling FSE and then exit/restart sage client. Not sure if it's the same problem you're having, but this worked for me. E |

Read this thread, and specifically the last few posts about the FILL option. I was getting the exact same error when using FSE and switching to full screen, although then mine would just lock up a couple minutes later.
Appears there is a bug in the software. |

Thanks for the info. FSE and FIll settings had no affect on getting Overlay to playback without error. But this morning, I think I may have stumbled upon a solution. When I disable 3D accelleration in SageTV's Advanced setup, Overlay capabilities return. I had to leave to go to work, so I'll test things out over the weekend, but that may be the answer. I have had fairly good results with VMR9, but if I recall correctly, Overlay gave me smoother playback.

You can't use Overlay with FSE (Full Screen Exclusive....and the exclusive is why you can't use Overlay with it).

I can't use overly with 3D acceleration enabled, never have been able to, actually I thought you "just" couldn't.
