Please post your custom transcoding parameters so that I can mooch off of your work

Hi,

I'd be interested in seeing any custom transcoding parameters that people are having success with (.e.g. parameters for Sage's transcoding engine). I have two problems.

1. A lot of transcodings of HD content fail or come out unplayable.

2. I seem to get some choppy transcodings unless I set the bitrate very high. For example, a 1280x720 deinterlaced xvid at a very high bitrate (8megabit/s) still has some choppiness and stuttering) Whereas, I can get an extremely smooth conversion with the same resolution and a much lower bitrate using AutoGK. I've tried using other players with the conversions so I am sure it's not a playback issue.

Ideally, I have three settings I'm looking for

1.A high quality 720p setting that I can use for recorded movies.
2.A good quality setting for long term archiving of hd TV shows (something around 800 MB per hour)
3.A good setting for for long term archiving of SD shows (something around 400MB per hour)

Any thoughts, recommendations, or even references to good third party resources would be hugely appreciated.
