Power management and hard drives...
I was wondering if anyone had their Sage deployment working with the power management functions to spin down the hard drives? Currently I have the tweaks done that were previously mentioned (including having the auto import scanning disabled):
http://forums.freytechnologies.com/f...&threadid=2470 And my system has 2Gig of RAM, so I have the pagefile disabled, but it still never enters standby. The caveat to this is that I am running a raid using the Intel Storage Manager, which talks about power management, but typically only in regards to notebooks. Does anyone have any insight or thoughts on this? I've tried running FileMon to see if I can spot anything using the system, but typically there's almost nothing...

I have the spin down enabled in BIOS and it works for my single 500Gb drive. I can actually hear it spinning down when it should.
The only problem is that if I restart the PC when the drive is span down BIOS doesn't see it and I have to do a CTL-ALT-DEL but this is probably just my mobo.

I suspect that the Intel RAID doesn't actually support this - which is unfortunate - definitely something I'm going to look into when I build my next system. I'll probably go with an SSD for my boot drive, then some RAID that supports PM for the storage - anyone have an external RAID box that they know supports PM?

For the past 2 years I have had my two drives power down after 3 minutes of inactivity. I used Windows Power Management. Most times, if I am playing or recording on the same drive as the operating system, the other drive is spun down after 3 minutes and stays there until Sage commands a program from it. Spin up time is about 5 seconds. I have had no problem with power ups. Before the WPM suspends the computer to ram (S3), both hard drives are spun up to speed then everything shuts down and will come back for a Sage recording 1 minute before the event starts.
