SageTV and Problems on Windows Vista

So, I am running windows Vista Home Premium edition. SageTV 6.0.19 is running on a HTPC in the main media room, and I am running SageTV Client 6.0.19 on my Vista machine. SageTV has no problems playing back any video file, wether it be a recorded file from sage or a DIVX file. But when it does play back it drops my Windows Vista theme from Aero Glass to Vista basic. This I can live with. But it will not let me watch Live TV. When I first turned the Machine on it worked for a few mins then I restarted SageTV and it no longer works.

Attached is a screen shot of what I get when I try to play back TV.

I have tried reloading my video drivers and SageTV. I have tried all the different video settings in SageTV. I have tried leaving my system on Vista Basic Theme. Nothin helps. I am going to try moving back to SageTV 5.0 but I dont think that will solve the Problem. Please help. I think we will see lots of people with the same problem.

I'm running SageTVClient 6.0.19 on Vista RC1 it works just fine., just waiting on my swag copies of Vista Ultimate to upgrade to RTM code. I can watch Live TV, Recorded TV or imported videos.

Anyways, to fix Aero Glass so it doesn't drop back to Aero Basic, upgrade your Java to 1.6, that will fix that problem.

Thanks, That solved the problem of not being able to view Live TV. But it still drops me to Basic. Now I was only able to find version 6 at sun.com. What version of java 1.6 where you talking about having me download?

Also I have since run into a different problem, When I move sage to my second monitor I get no Video Playback. Only on the Primary do I get playback. I had this problem under Windows XP once and I cant remember how I fixed it....

Java 1.6 = Java 6 . When Java went to 1.5, they started calling it 5, and the same for 1.6/6 . If you look at the install program, you'll see that it is installed in java1.6.0.

Regarding no video playback on second monitor, I do know that there are issues with VMR9 or Overlay not working properly on secondary monitors or something like that. I haven't run Sage on a secondary monitor for a long time (just during testing), so I don't recall the fix.

Assuming things aren't different on Vista... What decoder & renderer are you using? And, how is the 2nd monitor set up -- is the Windows desktop extended onto that monitor, or is the 2nd one set to be a clone? VMR9 runs slow on a 2nd monitor, but it should appear. Overlay runs on a 2nd monitor if your decoder supports it. But, if yo uare using clone mode, overlay probably won't show up.

I have since tried an 7800GTX, my 8800GTX died after one day of use. I have the same issues with the playback of video and dropping to Basic theme Mode.

I had not tried VMR9 and that is the only thing that has worked. Overlay does not work. The second monitor is running as extended desktop so that i have all of that as available as desktop space. just like under windows XP. I have tried the default SageTV decoder, Nvidia Purevideo decoder, same problems on both. So VMR9 is a workable work around. But It does have an issue. If i move the cursor around on the screen while watching any kind of video there are strange black square, and white circles around the cursor. So another problem down, and have discovered a minor problem that I can live with.

And it still drops to Vista Basic theme when I start watching video, again I can live with this, but hopefully Frey will look into this issue.
Thanks for the help.
