How do I crop r5000-HD output?

I haven't found a way to get the output of my r5000-hd image cropped for live tv viewing. I don't think the transcoder is being used since the r5000 does the recording, but is there a way to get sage to remove the little bit of blackness from the channels that have it? Ideally I would like to crop the output of the r5000, but they haven't done that yet, so I was hoping sage could. I can't simply use the stretch function in sage, due to the fact I am using a widescreen computer monitor with a 16:10 aspect ratio. I want to keep the image at 16:9 though, and don't mind the black bars, just want the missing transmission removed.

Just change the horizontal and vertical zoom (in the Aspect Ratio settings) by the same amount. You can zoom it just a bit to crop off whatever you want.

Well, I tried that before, but it doesn't do the trick. Keep in mind this monitor is 16:10, not 16:9. By the time you get the bottom stuff gone, the sides are missing about an inch ea. of screen content that is clipped off.

Ah, I see... You want to blank a little bit of the top/bottom, but not to zoom and crop off the sides.

I'm not sure of a way to do that.

Yep, thats it. Some channels have a different content height, and I would like to snip the garbage off the bottom, or top, depending on the channel. Ultimately I would like it removed in the recordings too.

FWIW, actually croping the image would be a huge deal, as it would require decoding the video, cropping the pixels, and then re-encoding it (or leaving it unmanagably huge), essentailly with HD it's impossible to do in realtime.

Covering it up on playback isn't terribly hard, but I'm unsure of a way to get Sage to do it.

Well, thanks for your help anyway. I am going to get back into programming with some classes i'm taking this year, maybe I can come up with some addon that will allow a mask of sorts that is adjustable in its proportions. I'm not even sure if it is possible with Sage though. Maybe something the developers can deal with in a future revision of Sage.

Actually I think this idea would work.
