h.264 conversion problems -- what gives?

Hi all,

I am hoping someone can help me with this because I've been pulling my hair out. I have DVD's that I have ripped using DVD Shrink 3.2 and VRD Plus used to combine the VOB's into one MPG2 file that I am trying to convert/compress to H.264 using Staxrip. I have tried a couple of movies but the same thing always happens -- I get a movie that runs in about 30-40 secs. When using Staxrip, I noted Project X was spitting out these errors:

I do not know how to fix these and I know this is what is causing my truncated conversion. Any ideas? I'm using x264 CE High Profile with MP4 container. Everything else is pretty much the defaults. I've tried other profiles with similar results.

Trying your suggestion but I see Project X is spitting out those messages again so I don't have a whole lot of confidence it will work... But I guess I'll see.

Well, I don't really know Staxrip, I use MEncoder to make h.264s, never had any problems with it.

Do you run this on windows? I have a windows binary for mplayer but I can't find one for mencoder. Do I need to run in cygwin?

Yes, you run in windows. You don't need cygwin unless you want to compile the binaries yourself.

MEncoder is part of the MPlayer package. If you are missing it then go grab the latest package from http://www.mplayerhq.hu/
