Question: Music Details not updating, v6

Hello all. I really try to find the answer to my question before posting, but after a half hour of searching, I'm no closer to finding my answer, so hopefully someone will have a simple answer to this.

I'm using the lastest version of Sage TV (6.0.19). I rip all of my music CD's in Windows Media Player. They rip to a directory I've specifically setup for my music (in other words, it is not the WMP default of ..\My Music, etc.). I've got this same folder setup in SageTV as a Music "Media Center Import Directory".

I rip my CDs as MP3, and all playback (both in WMP and Sage) works fine. HOWEVER, if I change any information about my music in WMP it is not updated in Sage. For example, if I change the genre of an album, again in WMP, it takes there just fine; but I then pull up "Genres" in the music management of Sage and the old information is still there. (I have similar experiences changing other song and/or album information.)

And this is probably a really dangerous question, but how about Sage and WMP sharing the same playlists? Is there an easy way to do that?

For what it is worth, I'm trying to avoid deviating from the "normal" installation of Sage too much (I understand that the SageMC features are better when it comes to music, but I'd like to avoid that). There's got to be some way to refresh the album and song information in Sage? I don't even know where that information is being kept?

IMHO, the new music stuff in Sage v6 is a huge leap forward, but it is still pretty weak.

Thanks! C.J.

I don't think there's an "update" aspect to the tags in SageTV; in other words, they're read at import time, but then never read again (I could be wrong, but I don't think so).

You may need to remove the import directory from your settings, tell Sage to refresh the imported media, and then re-add the import directory, and refresh once again. This should read the new tags.

You may want to try forcing a refresh first to see if that will work, but I don't think it will.

Keep us posted,
Stu

You can try using Refresh Imported Media in the Setup menu, but the info SageTV stores for the tags may not get updated for items already imported. The other thing to do is to update all the tags you want updated, then remove the music import dir in SageTV -- Setup -> Detailed Setup -> General -> Media Center Import Dirs. After that, do a full import refresh. When the music isn't listed in SageTV any more, restore the import dir & do another refresh. This will completely re-read all the tags for the music.

And, instead of actually removing the music import, just set that dir to import videos & turn off music. That way you won't need to add the dir again later; just re-enable music importing.

SageTV can import playlists that it finds in the music import dirs. Are the playlists stored there? However, the SageTV playlists won't be stored in separate external files like that.
