DVD On Hard Drive - Menus Work, Wont Play
I have a question about playing DVDs with SageTV. I am running SageTV 6.0.19 in server mode on a "headless" Windows 2003 server. As a result, I do not have a video card installed on this system. I watch all of the TV and recordings on my television via an MVP.
I have a DVD stored on the hard drive with the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS structures in tact. I can see the DVD in the Imported Videos list, and I can select it to start playing. I get the menus fine, and can navigate through them well. However, whenever I select to play the DVD from the main menu, the screen just goes black. I can, however, navigate through the scenes, and select to play from the first scene. That works - the DVD starts playing, and all seems fine (I have not sat through this scene to see what happens at the end, though). I have searched the forums for answers, and have found several older posts with similar issues, but no real resolutions. Is this something I should address with technical support? Thank you! Seems it's a hit or miss thing and if the stars are aligned just so when you set things up it has a 50/50 chance of working right. Mine will play some and not others while menus on all my collection are unusable. It's like the 'selector' is refreshing to the default location about 3-4 times a second. Have to be super quick to select any other feature for viewing. This is on the MVP; local client works fine. Guess I'll have to go HTPC when the main tv gets an HD update.

I have the very same problems with some of my dvds. They play fine on a client or if I burn a dvd and play it on my dvd player. but the mvp has problems.
Playing dvd on the mvp get better for every version of Sage, but it is not yet perfect Im affraid. You should contact support and let them know Rtengvad

DVDs without menus (just ripping the movie to disk) works great. With menus, I have to go to the menu pretty much immediately if I'm going to get it to work. If I get to the menu, everything's fine, but if it loads all the previews and stuff first, no dice.
99% of stuff, I'll just rip the movie only. Really the only time I want full menus is music concert DVDs. Agreed it's not perfect, but it's still good. |
