Can you burn to DVD in Linux version?

I apologize for reposting this question, but I wanted to make it its own thread.

Is integrated burning of recorded shows to DVD possible in the linux version? It looks like the Windows version is dependent on a couple of Windows programs to work, so my guess is that it wouldn't be compatible in Linux. Has anyone found some other way to integrate DVD burning into the Linux version?

I have not.
I'm using these tools Dvdstyler and K3b to burn my shows to DVD.

DVD burning is integrated into the Linux version...does it show up if you go to Media Center->DVD/CD Menu? If not, then there's a property you need to set to fix that:
Extensions/Enable_OpticalDrive=BurnBabyBurn

There's a few dependencies it has that you need to have installed. Be sure to have these programs installed:

mpeg2desc
mplex
dvdauthor
growisofs

Narflex,

I see this thread is old, so there may have been some changes, but I need clarification on some of the points:
-- I have checked that the listed programs are installed
-- The /opt/sagetv/server/Sage.properties file contains the appropriate line.

Which clients allow burning:
-- Windows Client?
-- Windows Placeshifter?
-- MediaMVP?
-- Linux Placeshifter?

Thanks for the help!
John

DVD buring support on Linux version of SageTV

Bump!

I would like to see this answered as well. It would help to know where to initiate the burn request and where to put the DVD burner...

You can add the property to your /opt/sagetv/server/clients/*.properties files to make the menu show on your clients (including local SageTV miniclient).

The dvd burning will happen on the server so you can for example leave a blank dvd in your burner and start the dvd writing from any other computer through an extender or the placeshifter.

Perfect! DVD menu has appeared!

Is the proper way to set up defaults for clients in the `RemoteClients.properties.defaults` file?

I have added the referenced line, so we'll see.

Thanx Demo!

John,

I think the right place to put it for new clients would be Sage.properties. I am trying to figure this out still on Linux, but it worked that way on Windows.

That's right for the RemoteClients.properties.defaults file but don't forget it is overwritten when you update to a new version.

Invalid Disk inserted

I have followed the instructions and DVD menu has appeared.

So far, have been successfully using the DVD from console with the following command :
growisofs -dvd-compat -Z /dev/dvd -R -J /var/media/tv/[file_name]

but, from Sagetv, when I click on "burn DVD" the following message appear "

"Error trying to create DVD with the selected videos : Invalid disc inserted. Please insert a blank DVD. "

Then I try with the same DVD from command line and it works. Does anyone know what could be wrong ?

Thanks

There should be more information on the problem in the log files if you enable debug logging.
