issue playing DVD

I've run into an odd situation. When I have a ripped DVD on my F:/ drive (which is where I put the file before I burn it) I cannot play a DVD from either of my DVD drives. Instead it plays the ripped DVD that is on my F:/ drive. Now, normally sage accesses my F:/ drive for my music and pictures. This is the only thing I keep on this drive with the exception of the forementioned ripped DVD. I've checked that the import directories are setup correctly, which is that music and pictures are checked "yes" for my F:/ drive and videos from my D:/ drive. When I delete the ripped file on my F:/ drive the DVD in the player will then play.
What do you think?

Craig

That's because (And I'm assuming) you have your D: drive listed as your video drive and that D: drive is your DVD drive. If you are ripping DVDs to your F: drive then your F: drive needs to be your video drive.

I think he's saying that if a dvd rip is present on his F (only setup in Sage for pics/music) drive that he is unable to play a dvd disc in his optical drive. since Sage's import settings are not told to look in F for shows that seems really strange to me. I've personally not tried to play a DVD disc directly in Sage, but if this isn't resolved before I get home I'll find some time to try it myself. Shouldn't be too hard to duplicate since I have a couple of paths set to exclude videos from the import search. Probably take longer to copy the files.

Where is the rip located on F? Maybe it is in such a place (root dir?) that it looks like it is a DVD drive based on the folder structure & for whatever reason, that drive ends up being the first one checked when a DVD is to be played.

When I put a dvd through my decrypter I send it as a file folder to F:\ and that's all it says under the properties of the folder as well. I'm not familiar with how it would look if it was set up as a root Dir. (whatever that is) To get to it I just click on "my computer" click "F:\" and there it is as a folder along with some other folders. One thing that I changed a long time ago was the target for "My documents" under the start menu. The Target is F:\.

The root dir is the top level directory (or folder) on the drive, so that would be F:\. From what you describe, it sounds like SageTV sees the same directory structure that it would see on a DVD drive & plays the DVD in the first drive it finds. Try putting it somewhere other than in F:\ ... perhaps F:\DVDs.

Making a new folder on the F:\ drive to put the ripped dvd into seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks.

I have one more quick question. I installed ver. 6.0.19.120. In the system info under the help menu it says that I have this version of the software but under current STV file it says STV3-2.xml (version 6.0.18.0 December 18, 2006). Does that mean I'm using version 6.0.18 with the STV that I imported intead of 6.0.19? If so do I need to reimport the STV with version 6.0.19?

Thanks,

Craig

the difference between 6.0.18 and 6.0.19 was minor, only some core upgrades, IIRC. The stv did not change, it is still the 6.0.18 stv, so you are fine.

Normally, however, to get all the improvements of the new stv, you would need to load the new sagetv3.xml and then do you imports/mods on the new stv.
