Placeshifter 6 with Vista Business

I was able to install and connect to my server with Placeshifter without incident. When I tried to watch live tv, Vista had to change the color scheme of the OS to Vista Basic, in due I think to incompatibility with Aero. I get audio but no video. Interestingly enough, when I go back to the program guide the picture appears in the guide window, along with sound, but it appears to be a still image.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Make sure you have java 6 installed. Other then that it will be related to your video drivers because I believe Placeshifter prefers overlay.

Gerry,

Thanks for the note. Version 1.6 is installed as are the latest video drivers on my Intel video adapter in my laptop. Just as an fyi, the it works fine with Windows XP (I'm using a dualboot on the same laptop).

I verified in my Nvidia Pure Decoder that Overlay is default.

Video on the placeshifter doesn't work on my Vista RC1 box. I haven't installed my RTM copy yet, haven't had time.

pvrpenguin talked to support and they know about the issue.

Thanks. Interestingly enough, I get 0 FPS when connected to Placeshifter with Vista Business. No issues with XP. Video and audio come through loud and clear.

Same Issue

I have the same issue under Vista Ultimate. With the default placeshifter java install (1.4.2 I believe), just launching placeshifter would kick it in to "Vista Basic" mode.

I installed Java 6 and that issue went away. However, it still kicks into basic mode when I run any video from it. It's not that big of a deal, but is a little annoying.

My FPS also shows zero. Other than those issues, Placeshifter appears to be running fine.

It's because Placeshifter uses Overlay and Vista is not offering that support. Not saying it won't work-it just doesn't support it any more. This is becoming more and more apparent as knowledge base documents on Vista become available.

I just switched my laptop to Vista Business. I'm just using the basic interface with a VGA driver (since my system is so old). I don't get video, either, and get the 0 frames per second.
