Is there a way to set the Quality in VBR mode?

I created several custom recording modes by editing sagerecorder.properties, as described in the documentation. But I'm finding that the quality in VBR mode is a bit low, so it does a great job of compression, but has more motion artifacts than I like.

So, is there a way to make it use higher quality (less compression) in VBR mode?
