MB selection

Been thinking about upgrading the SageTV system. An Intel Core 2 Duo, maybe 2 gigs of ram, and a new PCI-X video card along with the existing 4 Hauppauge 150's and the My HD 130.

Looking around at Fry's yesterday, I noticed there were no mb's with 5 pci slots, most had a max of three. I need five.

Any suggestions ?

I've never seen more than 3 on current 965, 975, or 680i boards. Ebay the 150's and go for PVR500/DualTV's? HDHomeRun?

I'll second Polypro's recommendation about the HDHomerun - it ROCKS!! I just built my PC, and I'm VERY happy with the build. It's fast, responsive, and silent!

I chose the new ASUS built on the Intel 975 chipset - it's the P5W DH Deluxe.

The Northbridge/Southbridge run a little hot (or their sensors indicate that they are warm), but this is normal according to the manufacturer. Still, I removed the copper covers stuck to both heatsinks to allow more airflow and temps did drop a few degrees.

I'm running it with 2GB of RAM, and the Core 2 Duo 6600. My graphics card is PCIx and does well. I am using Zalman coolers for CPU and graphics, and Speedfan to monitor temps and control fan speeds - works flawlessly!

The board provides a lot of RAID options with SATA - I selected a RAID 5 with three 500GB drives.

The board also boasts GB LAN x 2, lots of USB support, firewire x 2, WiFi, HD audio (very nice), and a few nice features to make assembly easier.

Not looking forward to selling all the tuner cards (4-150's and a MyHD130), that would be a deal breaker. Guess I'm now relegated to Luddite status !!

Hopefully, the current Abit mb will keep on trucking for awhile.

Intel makes some great MB's specifically geared to the HT Business.

The model DG965WH is a fantatsic choice in my opinion.

Stay away from anduthing with a VIA chipset, you are asking for disaster. I have also had good luck with the ASUS Nvidia chipsets series.

Good luck finding a MB with more than 3 pci slots
