I just triggered the issue from a clean start and sent the log to sage for review.

Are you saying that you too were able to reproduce what I said above? I am confused.

Exactly what I am saying. Also received word back that they think the issue is related to my use of Server 2K3 and service mode. Since it is not an offically supported OS, I may be out of luck. Everyone else here running 2K3? If you are running XP, please submit a bug report. I would rather not have to run SageTV in an active user session as my server is headless.

How very interesting. I'm also running a headlesss Win2k3 (SP1) server.

I sincerely hope this isn't a problem with the OS - I'd hate to run a server using XP.

I never heard back from Sage about my bug submission, even after sending them a reminder. I guess I'll try once more...

Andy.

I have tested using service-mode and non service-mode and I see the same problem in both cases.

I am not too happy with non-service mode. I have already had 1 lock up (non mvp related).. I think I will write a batch file to stop and start the service and run it every night at 3 am.

Hopefully that fixes the issue.

I am running Windows XP Pro, all patched up, so it's NOT that.

Guys (and Gals :-) having this problem, can you please see if you can re-produce this problem with your MVP's and what OS you are running?

You will encounter several problems doing this.

1) Your system will "fail" to startup at the worse possible time, as in you will notice that something did not go right and you missed recording several shows because of it.

2) If a show is currently recording, it will get messed up.

Joe, have you filed a bug report with SageTV? When they replied to me, it was indicated that the only other report was another 2K3 user.

Yes I did. And I spefically explained that I am using Windows XP Pro.

George Omg(sp?) at SageTV wants me to run in debug mode and send the data. First, I wanted to try a clean install of Sage which is what I did a few days ago to start fresh which did not fix my problem.

The ball is on my side since I need to send in the bug listing and I have not had time.

But to answer your question, Yes, SageTV knows about my problem AND that I am using Windows XP Pro, latest patch, etc.

BTW: there is sometimes a difference between filing a bug report and contacting tech support, because they go to different people. Tech support will try to help solve the problem before it gets passed along as a bug. A bug report doesn't go through tech support. If you have what you think is a reproducible bug, then file a bug report.

BCJenkins,

How many times were you able to turn your MVP off/on until the MVP stopped botting from SageTV?

I don't know.. 10 or so. I am too lazy to count the registrations in the debug file.. However, I am of little use on this unless someone sends in log files to SageTV who is not running Server 2K3 ::hint::

Yes, I will.

I just downloaded the newest version of SageTV and need to test it first. I am doing this because I know that support first word will be, have you tried the newest version?

Sage think they found the problem

I just heard back from Sage. I don't know if this is the case for you guys, but in my case they are telling me that the problem is located in a 3rd party add-on : multidcttuner.dll (which tunes certain Motorola STBs via a serial link).

George sent me a version of the plugin that he suggests might work and I've attached it here. YMMV of course - but good luck!

I'd love to know from you guys that are having a problem a) whether you're running this DLL, and b) if so, does the attached DLL fix the problem for you.

Interesting. I am using the DirecTV serial tuner. Wonder if it is the same issue.

I just did a search for "multidcttuner.dll" of my entire C: drive and it comes back empty.

I even search for things like "*multidcttuner*" - no cigar.

I am using Windows XP Pro.

Check for "ExeMultiTunerPlugin.dll" or "ExeTunerPlugin.dll". In any event it should be in the "common" folder.

See the same issue on WinXP Pro- Clean install of sage barely two weeks old. Sage service is not running. Use the DirectTV serial tuner dll (old- posted by Hector in the new dll thread). Sage server is the official v6 release (2wks old) not the beta.

My current server is 3800+ AM2 with 1GB RAM on a 10/100 LAN with Netgear router/Linksys router (switch mode). Server uses static IP. No other clients connecting to it at the same time.

I see this problem occurring at roughly the same intervals....what I did note is a huge increase in the memory/PF usage (It is from the Task manager list- not very savvy on PF usage etc...). Basically a restart of sage server will make it run using about 140MB or so of the aforesaid memory.. with about 5 -10% of CPU usage....overnight/12hrs+ it starts to spike up to 250MB or so of memory usage...with CPU usage also slowly creeping up to 40% -50%. This is associated with the lockups I see on the MVP- I always verify this whenever my MVP locks up. I have seen this on my earlier server before the upgrade as well (an XP2100 with 512mb RAM).....anyone else see this? I can submit a bug report/tech support query...just want to check if any resolution is up yet for this problem.
