Request for instructions on how to install stv's particularly SageMC

Is there a primer some place on how to install and use STVs? I have some stupid questions.

I downloaded a trial of sage and sageMC onto my other computer so as not to risk my sage install on my main HTPC. There's a lot of tweaking went inot getting sage to work properly so I treat my main HTPC with kid gloves. I'm glad I did. I've had to reinstall sage once and now I've sodded it up again trying to install webradio.

questions I can't work out so perhaps others have similar questions.

When you download an stv, or stvi, where do you put it? program files/sageTV/ or program files/sageTV/sageTV/? I think it's the later right? Even though some of the instructions say to put it in the sageTV base directory.

What's the difference between sageMC installer and the normal sageMC download. Is it just that it copies the files to the right place? There are four SageMC16x9 downloads. It seems that the one I've listed first here is a further add-on to sageMC? Does the installer, and/or the one just listed as SageMC16x9 include these add-ons? Then there's the latest development build? how does that relate?

Also, what's the difference between
SageMC16x9 for SageTV 5.x (Build v6.13a)
SageMC16x9 Latest Dev Build
SageMC16x9
SageMC Installer

I figured out that I have to load the .xml file. Loading the .stv file was the reason I ended up having to start over before. There are several other add-ons, do I have to add them through the import function too?

What does IR excluder do? I can't find the stand-alone stvi

If I add an STVi, and I don't like it, how do I get rid of it?

How do I add menu items without making a pigs ear of the stv? I installed webradio according to the instructions as I understood them (A case of loose connection between seat and keyboard perhaps), but now sage only does webradio and nothing else. I can build the menus back up manually but the nice themes and stuff have all dissapeared. Can I undo this damage without removing the custom menu feature entirely?

I can't answer your SageMC questions, but I'll take a stab at some of the others.

There is no single answer to this. It depends on the plugin you're trying to install. If the plugin's instructions aren't clear, post a message to that plugin's support thread asking for clarification.

Revert to the standard STV and re-import any STVIs you want to keep. Once you're done re-importing, you can delete any .stvi files you don't want to keep.

This is also how you upgrade to a new version of a given STVI: start from scratch with the standard STV and re-import. There is no general method for un-importing an STVI or upgrading in place.

In the most case, the STVi's (at least my ones!) say 'unpack into the SageTV home directory' -- this is where the SageTV.exe is, normally:
Program Files\SageTV\SageTV...

Also, what's the difference between

SageMC16x9 for SageTV 5.x (Build v6.13a) -> Is the newest SageMC for Sagetv ver. 5.x

SageMC16x9 Latest Dev Build-> Is an update for SageMC, if you'va already installed it

SageMC16x9 -> Is the latest version of SagMC, for a new installation

SageMC Installer -> Unpacks SageMC automatically as you describe yourself

Everything real_per said, just want to add that I wouldn't recommend the (otherwise excellent) SageMC installer right now because it hasn't been updated for a while.
