RC6.1.4: No sound from DVDs

I recently decided to make my Sage box my main DVD player since I am now running an HDTV and want good upconvert performance. I'm having an issue with sound when trying to play DVDs through sage.

I am using AC3filter 1.11 (installed after unregistering the native sage ac3filter.ax) to convert the AC3 audio to 2.0 stereo. This setup works when used in WMP... I get the AC3 filter tray icon and the input and output level bars show that sound is flowing through it.

I have Sage set up to use AC3filter as the audio decoder for DVDs, and when I play a DVD in sage I get no sound. The AC3filter tray icon comes up just like it does in WMP, and the level bars show activity... all bars for input are jumping around, and the L and R bars for output are jumping around. So... AC3filter is active and is processing the audio, but there is no sound in sage.

The only codecs I have installed other than the default Sage ones are Purevideo bronze .223. After searching, it seems like there may be some issues with DVD audio with bronze, but I was under the impression that AC3filter should bypass that.

Is anyone else having this problem, and can anyone suggest anything I can try? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

try setting sage to use default for the audio renderer and in AC3filter set AC3filter to be the preferred renderer. (Last tab in the setup screen, bottom right corner.)

Good luck.

Cheers

Thanks for the suggestion, parkimar. I'm actually already doing that... default in sage and encoder merit for AC3filter is at 0x10000000. I know that AC3filter is being used, since the icon is in the taskbar while the DVD is playing and the volume bars are dancing up and down, but there's no sound out of the speakers!

Hi,

are you using the Spdif out ?
Im guessing since you are using stereo you are not - therefore, have you checked to make sure on the last tab, which audio goes out of spdif.

Cheers

Mark

I have the same problem here with DIVX files with AC3 encoded audio. Those files play well in WMP and DIVX player but there is no audio when played by sage. AC3 Filter work with sage since it play HDTV with AC3 encoded audio without any problem.

Change videoframe/last_dshow_volume=0.0 in the properties file to videoframe/last_dshow_volume=1.0 and that should fix it.

OK!!!!! I just sat here for the last 1hr trying to fix the audio. Then I found this thread and made the change, and now it worked.

What does that change do?

Thanks

Great job
