Placeshifter inconsistent gui's ?

Hey guys,

I am currently using Sagetv 6.0.19 with the MCE gui. I am currently away from home but do access to my sagetv server via Termserv.. Before I left home, i tested the placeshifter settings with both a local system on my local lan and a system across town.

I have noticed a few wierd things....On my local lan system, the placeshifter software pulls up the original gui... however, on the wan systems, I am using the MCE gui....Why? The Sagetvmce placeshifter gui, does not provide me with the normal stop, play, rew, ffwd, or pause controls... only the right click is operation on placeshifter with the MCE gui...

Does anyone know why I would be getting different gui's based on where I'm placeshifting from?

Is there a way to force it to use the original gui during placeshifting? or does anyone have a fix for the missing playback controls of the mce gui during placeshifting?

Thanks,
James

When you are connecting via the LAN, you are probbaly not logging in as a Placeshifter user, but you are while logging in from a remote location. While logged in as that user, you can simply load the STV you want to use & it should remember it for that user from then on.

If the ability to remember the loaded STV for the current user was added after the version you are using (you'll know, because it won't use the same STV when you log in again), then use Manage Placeshifter Users in Detailed setup and assign the desired STV for that user.

Hi

Take a look at the properties files in c:\program files\sagetv\sagetv\clients. Sage creates a properties file (which includes the settings of which STV to use) based on the MAC address of the client connecting to it, which means that its seeing a different MAC from your LAN/WAN connections

As I said above, when logging in as a Placeshifter user from a remote location, the STV assigned to that user will be loaded, not anything marked in properties file found in the clients subdirectory.

The original post said he was connecting via terminal server, so wouldn't that be considered a local connection too ? ie wouldn't need to use placeshifter user/passwd

I've never opened 31099 on my router, I tunnel through ssh hence my slight confusion :-)

I didn't realize that you could connect 'locally' that way. If Placeshifter is connecting w/o logging in as a PS user, then yes, the property file settings you mentiond would be valid.

I interpreted OP as saying he has access to TS, but you can't run PS in a TS window. The video/audio won't work. I run TS to admin headless server.

Local LAN use == default XML file as noted in sage.properties

WAN use == defaults to the STV in use when the user was created, but can be changed to be whatever is desired. (This morning I was creating a couple of users in PS and had iSage.xml as stv. All new users kept that setting.) This setting is in the Server section of Detailed setup of the default STV. FTR - SageMC in PS is difficult, for me, to use with mouse.
