windows SYSTEM using 100% cpu (Nod32+Sage?)
I updated Sage a few weeks ago when my Actisys IR transmitter just stopped working.. I was completely at a loss.. installing the latest version seemed to help a bit... anyways all is well..
Not sure when the rest of the problems arose, but i've started noticing recordings not happening, CPU usage is at 100%, looking in the process manager and its just windows SYSTEM process at 100%. If you kill it its all toasty again after 10 seconds. When its in this state, it actually stops the actisys being able to transmit, certainly being able to transmit all the digits required in time. The only thing i can thing of as i've tried to strip the system back down is that i had installed a trial of NOD32.. I've just uninstalled that finally and we'll see.. I know its meant to be a streamlined virus checker but there is so little that changes on my PVR machine. To put it into perspective this machine has been happily running Sage now for many years, its rarely had any problems so i have to assume its something thats changed.. either NOD, or perhaps the latest version of Sage.. i'll see if the problem has gone away now NOD32 is uninstalled. |

Process Explorer can show which thread is using the CPU in a process. (right click process, properties, threads tab) You may be able to narrow it down to a driver.

thanks a lot.. thats just what i wanted. If it does happen again i'll be sure to look with this.. Seriously tho the system is so dormant that very few things ever change.. its either NOD32 or Sage6 they're the only things i've put on the system in the last 6 months.

Make sure you set a virus scan exclusion for the recording directories. Otherwise, your virus scanner will continuously re-scan each video file every time it changes, bogging down the system.
