Where to buy IR emitters in Canada?

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know where to buy IR emitters in Canada that are compatible with the USB-UIRT?

Something along the lines of http://cache.smarthome.com/images/8171.jpg

Thanks,

-Peter

Why not build one? It's simple.

I built my own 2 zones emitters based on the instructions on the USB-UIRT forum. It is really easy !

Thanks for the responses.

Would these parts work for making an emitter?

I would still prefer to buy a premade solution, since I don't have a solder iron and don't have much experience in this type of thing.

Thanks.

When I made mine, I used parts I got from The SourceCC. However, what you need is an IR emitter (the ones you found are emitter/receiver I believe) and I am quite sure a 1/8" stereo plug. Just take the USB-UIRT with you to make sure you have the right jack and pick an emitter.

I looked at premade emitters in Canada but never found any for a reasonable amount. You could buy some on eBay and have them shipped, but at the end of the day, it all adds up for a pretty simple project. MHO.

I don't see The SourceCC selling the emitter's separately. It looks like you can only get it in a pack with the receiver too... unless I'm missing something?

Thanks

I just made up a pair of them here on the couch.

Pair of IR emitters from Radio Shack, old cat 5 patch cable for wire, pair of mono 1/8 plugs from RS and a stereo to mono splitter from RS.

I realized after I got home I didn't have any solder, so for now it's a twist job until I make it back to Radio Shack (30 min from here), unless Wal-Mart has solder.

First, I cut the modular connectors off the end of the cat 5 and stripped the sheath off, leaving me with 4 twisted pairs to use for the emitters.

Connected one end of a pair to the 1/8 mono plug, then the other end to the 2 legs of the LED.

The splitter comes in because the plug on the usb-uirt is a stereo plug, think one channel for each emitter. But, since RS didnt have a 1/8 stereo plug, I got a stereo to mono splitter to let me use the mono plugs.

Should have a chance to test it tomorrow, but it's pretty simple wiring and I can't imagine it wont work.

Total cost was $12 US, which is cheaper than I can get even a single emitter shipped to me. A little heat shrink and some solder and I will have a nice pair of emitters.

But, now that I have 3 total emitters and only 2 tuners, it looks like I will have to add a 3rd tuner to fully utilize my capacity Somehow I don't think my wife will agree with my logic.
